BIKE TALK: Rail Trail Challenge

BIKE TALK session in February!

The Bike Walk Alliance of New Hampshire is proud to present the next episode of the BIKE TALK series. We will be learning about the New Hampshire Rail Trail Challenge and hearing from one of the organizers of the project, Marianne Borowski. Marianne will discuss the origin of the challenge concept and why it is important for trail advancement in New Hampshire.

We will also hear from folks like John and Elaine Egolf who completed the New Hampshire Rail Trail Challenge on bicycles this past summer. John and Elaine are quite active in the outdoors and are accomplished hikers finishing many hiking challenges including “New England’s 100  Highest” peak challenge. John and Elaine got into cycling in 2018. After a few misadventures they discovered New Hampshire’s Rail Trails and fell in love. They will share their  personal stories from the experiences and challenges encountered along their journey to complete the New Hampshire Rail Trail Challenge.  If you have been thinking about completing this challenge yourself, or just want to learn more about New Hampshire’s rail trail system, please join us on Tuesday February 20, 2024 at 7pm via Zoom for a virtual presentation that is sure to be informative and motivational.

Check the BWANH Events Calendar or our BIKE TALK page for details on how to get the Zoom link, which will be available soon. Like all our BIKE TALK sessions, you must register for the free session to receive the Zoom link.

Below is a pic of the first 2 people to complete the Challenge – Jackie Picard and Meridith Suitor, back in December of 202 the inaugural year! Completing the Challenge means that they have explored all 40-something (there are nearly 50 now!) rail trails in New Hampshire! This is over 380 miles!

Below is a map showing all of the rail trails in New Hampshire, currently 48, with more coming online in the next few years. Check out the New Hampshire Rail Trail Coalition’s website nhrtc.org for tons of resources on all things related to New Hampshire Rail Trails, including maps, the guidebook, list of all the rail trails in New Hampshire, and a full description theRail Trail Challenge rules.
