What's New!

NH Rail Trail Challenge Gains Popularity!

In May, the New Hampshire Rail Trails Coalition (nhrtc.org) an affiliate of the Bike-Walk Alliance of New Hampshire, launched its very creative idea for the first-ever New Hampshire Rail Trails Challenge!

What is that?

It’s a simple fun challenge open the everyone to encourage exploring  New Hampshire’s  many Rail Trails. There are over 40 at last count, in all corners and regions of the state, and that number is slowly growing. There is no start date or end date or fee to doing the challenge. Take as long as you like. Bike, walk, jog, ski, snowshoe or use any of the active non-motorized modes of transportation the trails allow. Those who are so inclined can apply for a custom designed embroidered patch!

In July a Facebook “Group” was created for this challenge, and in just 3 months there are nearly 300 members in this active & chatty group! Check it out at–> https://www.facebook.com/groups/295123685029437/

The Rail Trails Challenge could not be a more perfect activity to latch on to during a pandemic. It is a healthy, easy activity for people of all ages, and all fitness levels to participate in. It appeals to families as well as those seeking some solace. Since people using trail trails tend to keep moving, and not congregate, are outside, combined with the fact that most trails are typically 10 – 14 feet wide, this provides plenty of room for social distancing, and makes for the perfect outdoor activity during a pandemic. Do it for your health and mental wellness. Stay connected to your community.
