New Boston Rail Trail Complete!

Major congratulations to the New Boston Rail Trail. In October, this local rail trail, open to non-motorized users only, completed construction of its final 2-mile segment with a ribbon cutting ceremony, bike ride & other celebratory activities all happening on Sunday October 10th, 2021. Now complete, the New Boston Rail Trail stretches for a total of 4 miles, from (nearly) New Boston Center, heading east to Parker Road, very close to the Goffstown town line.

The list of folks & organizations who helped out along the way to this great conclusion of a beautiful, heavily wooded, 4-mile rail trail is long. We’d like to give a special shout out to the New Boston Rail Trail committee, and in particular, to Louise Robie, who has diligently shepherded this project for over a decade. We all know that work is never completely done, as rail trails, like any infrastructure, will always require maintenance tasks as time goes on. For now all should celebrate the fact that all 4 miles of this trail are now complete and in pristine condition with a finished compacted crushed gravel surface. The new parking lot and trailhead at the eastern terminus on Riverside Drive are also welcome additions from this final project phase. Discussions continue about the possibility of adding a tunnel under Parker Road that would better serve ADA trail users. If you have not yet checked out the New Boston Rail Trail, you should definitely put this one on your list. With few road crossings, it is great for cross country skiing and or snowshoeing in winter. Be sure to check out Dodges Store, and the original depot building, now a private residence, at the western trail terminus on Depot Road. For more information, go to https://www.nbrailtrail.com/.
