What's New!

Looking ahead to 2021

As we begin 2021, we now know that nationwide, there has been a significant increase in biking and walking for transportation, exercise, and mental well-being. My hope is that even more people will discover these benefits throughout this upcoming year. Equally inspiring are the reports of the environmental benefits from this reduced use of fossil-fuel powered vehicles.

Current indications lead us to believe that restrictions, or rather changes, in activities and travel in general will still be in place for much of 2021. This tells me that many people will still be turning to biking and walking as we navigate through this upcoming year.

It can still be difficult to purchase a new bike or even a used one, due to the increased demand and supply chain challenges. This also may continue through 2021. If you or someone you know is looking for a bike, be sure to check out the many Bicycle Recycling organizations around the state. One of them may have a bike for you!

Another benefit that many communities have experienced as a result of COVID restrictions is the increased use of technologies such as Zoom, WebEx or other platforms for conducting virtual meetings. Now more people than ever are using this technology and this shift greatly reduces the amount of pollution we are putting in to the atmosphere from travel.

Like many families, ours has changed the way we gather, choosing smaller groups. The benefit to that experience is the opportunity for more engaged interactions, versus gathering in larger groups. We have enjoyed way more outdoor socially distanced fire-side chats and small gatherings than usual, as well as long walks, hikes or snowshoeing with just one or two other friends.  Of course,  always mindful of social distancing.

Narrowing our circle of travel has allowed us to more fully explore and be grateful for the many beautiful, fun and inspiring bits of nature we have right here in our own backyard, many of which we never would have even known about.

As we all move forward with whatever is ahead of us, I wish everyone strength, health and happiness in 2021.
