May is New Hampshire Bike Month

Time to join the fun encourage others to hop on a bike!

May is National Bike Month, and this year, May 7 is National Ride a Bike Day. Established in 1956, National Bike Month is a chance to showcase the many benefits of bicycling — and encourage more folks to give biking a try. Bike to Work Week 2023 will take place May 15-21, 2023, and Bike to Work Day is on Friday, May 19.

In New Hampshire, Bike Month is being promoted by BWANH, NH Department of Transportation, and the regional planning commissions with events such as the annual CommuteSmart Statewide Challenge, in which commuters are encouraged to commute sustainably, log trips, and earn rewards, while organizations (places of work) compete with one another by avoiding the most miles driven or single-occupant car trips taken. To find out how your organization can participate in the Challenge, visit https://commutesmartnh.org/spring-statewide-challenge/

NH Bike Month events – a wide variety of rides, demos, and how-to opportunities – can be found on BWANH’s online events calendar. For more events in your area, check the website of your regional planning commission. May is the perfect time of year to dust off your bike and build a biking habit that will improve your health, your community, and the planet.
