Driver Education Manual Evaluation

BWA Looks to Push for More Cycling Inclusion in the NH Driver’s Ed Manual

The BWA Board agreed to move ahead with a plan to assess the current NH Driver’s Ed manual in an effort to bring it up to best practices.  This effort is driven by the desire to better educate current and future drivers to make cycling safer for all.

Did you know that bicycling, or some derivative of the word, is only used 24 times in the NH manual? That’s compared to 206 times in neighboring Massachusetts’ manual!! We definitely have some work to do!

The Board is combing through some of the other manuals from top-rated cycling states, as rated by the League of American Bicyclists, and regional manuals to help determine best practices and then will make suggested changes to the manual and bring them to New Hampshire’s Department of Safety in an effort to get them accepted.
