BWANH Speaks at City Council Meeting

This has been an ongoing and painful issue for local bike advocacy organization SABR (Seacoast Area Bike Riders) who has spent many hours organizing opposition to the absurd notion of dismantling a portion of this flagship bike lane.

Bike-Walk Alliance was happy to speak at this session, wearing the “statewide bike advocacy organization” hat, and providing testimony citing the many risk factors and safety issues, and wasting of funds, that would result if the decision were to move forward. The most compelling comments came from two separate 13 year-olds who commute to school along this bike lane regularly, and explained how it keeps them safe. Their parents also spoke, noting how they feel knowing that their children would be less safe if this bike lane is altered as proposed.

For the public comments, at least a dozen people spoke, and hundreds of emails were submitted to the council, all showing overwhelming opposition to the motion.  The actual vote is scheduled to happen this week. Kudos to SABR for organizing the advocacy effort. BWANH is happy to partner with regional organizations on issues like this.  For more information and to stay up-to-date on this issue, go to https://seacoastbikes.org/middle-street-bike-lane-now-we-wait/?fbclid=IwAR0WMzLW1pW1YmJpYg6RloFG4TD8LDNN9grcXg6B4zv49f0lRg_sYfhbnnA
