Bike Rodeos
Many community organizations such as schools, Police and Fire Departments, Kiwanis, Rotary, religious groups and community centers organize local bike rodeos to teach kids basic safe cycling skills. Bike rodeos typically involve a bike safety skills course, general bike safety information, helmet safety information, and sometimes much more. Contact your local community organizations to find out if a bike rodeo is planned in your area. Check out our Bike Rodeo page under “Resources” for some great resources helpful in hosting a bike rodeo.
Seacoast VeloKids
Seacoast VeloKids is a non-profit organization dedicated to the introduction and promotion of cycling to the youth of New Hampshire and Maine’s Seacoast communities.
Youth Educational Sports, Inc.
Youth Educational Sports, Inc. (YES, Inc.) is focused on the “Sport of Bicycling” becoming an active annual Physical Education Unit in secondary schools.
The goals are: encourage youth to incorporate a very natural; low impact form of exercise; competition and transportation. Riding a bicycle while introducing a healthy life style to reduce obesity and the number bicycle riders killed, disabled or injured in vehicle collisions. This goal is achieved by teaching best practices and age appropriate skill building skills, drills and competition.
YES, Inc. has trained School Cycling Instructors (SCI) to provide professional development for the Physical Education Teachers and help establish Physical Education Bicycle Units at secondary schools.
Cycle Kids
45 active programs in 8 states CycleKids can be taught indoors or out. Its an 8 class module in Phys ed curriculum. Strong measurement of effectiveness with the program.
