Speak Up at 10 Year Plan Meetings!

Did you know the state of New Hampshire, like many states, is required by law to update its Ten Year Plan (TYP) for transportation improvements every 2 years? This effort is managed by an entity called the “Governor’s Advisory Committee on Intermodal Transportation” or “GACIT.” You can learn more about this effort here on the NH Department of Transportation (DOT) website. Public input sessions are required as part of this process.

The sessions will begin in September and be happening throughout the state during the months of September and October. Check out the schedule of when and where here or on the BWANH calendar here.

It’s important to understand that these meetings are your opportunity to speak up and make your voice heard regarding your thoughts on how our state should allocate resources for transportation needs.  For example, if you think more funding should be spent on biking and walking projects, or transit projects for that matter, now is your chance to speak up.

BWA board members and other advocate organizations are working together to strategize messaging on this effort.  For example, we feel more funding should be allocated to biking and walking projects. Additionally, we’ll be asking for more detailed visibility into project spending, so that it is clear when a given road or bridge or other project includes adding or improving bike lanes and sidewalks.

We urge as many of you as possible to please attend these Ten Year (Transportation) Plan (GACIT Hearing) meetings and communicate your needs. We hope to see you there!

Additionally, please consider taking DOT’s survey that is described in the next article in this newsletter or on the DOT 10 Year Plan website here.
