Did you know that for any state bill, if you know the bill number, you can sign in pro or con before the committee hearing without having to be present at the hearing or to submit testimony (although you’re free to do both). It’s a low investment of time, but it can have a good cumulative effect: the committee clerk will read aloud at the hearing the tally of electronic sign-ins, with the number for and against the bill.
These sign-ins can be done anytime between the day the bill’s hearing date is posted online until 30 minutes before the actual hearing. Electronic sign-ins after that time will not be included in the tally reported to the committee at the hearing.
This applies to regular policy committees only (e.g. Transportation Committee or Resources and Recreation Committee, etc), not to special committees like the one on rail trail management.
